* 9 Day Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, Swaziland and Kruger Park

This morning guests will be collected from their hotel, guesthouse or backpacker and depart for Kosi Bay in Northern Kwazulu Natal.  Today is a long day of driving and your driver/guide will stop along the way for lunch and soft drinks.  Guests will arrive in the afternoon at Amangwane where they will be shown to their chalets and enjoy an ice cold beverage at the bush bar.

3 x nights at Amangwane Lodge inclusive of all meals, 1 x local activity per day, soft drinks and all teas and coffees.

Our community camp is a rustic haven in the dunes surrounding the lakes of Kosi Bay and is situated close by the northernmost entrance to the Wetland Park and in the heart of the welcoming Thongaland community. We are just outside the gate to Kosi Bay mouth (a 10-minute drive from the beach).

Your accommodation is in cool reed chalets which are basic but comfortable, each with twin beds and en-suite toilet and shower.  An al-fresco dining area and fire circle is the perfect place to relax, unwind and make the most of the warm days and the starry nights.

The camp is run off a generator, power being available for lighting and charging of batteries in the evenings. We provide comfortable beds and linen etc, but we ask that you bring your own toiletries and beach towel.

This is a non-luxury destination for the adventurous traveller – come to love beautiful Kosi Bay.  The nearest dive site is Ponta do Ouro just over the Mozambique border, or Sodwana Bay.

Activities we offer from the camp include:

Snorkelling trips to the bay – this is one of the top 10 snorkelling sites in Africa – the clear warm waters are perfect. Highly recommended.

Fish trap visits – one of the fish trap owners, whose family has been in the area for generations, will take you to his fish traps and explain how they work. He will show you how they are made and after explaining how he spears the fish, you are encouraged to try and catch one yourself. What you catch you keep – we can prepare it for your dinner.

Canoeing – the community guides will take you out for an easy paddle on these beautiful waterways.

Short Hike – A short guided hike in the area, with good views of the lakes and through the rural village.

Visit to local school – meet and talk to local kids in the classroom (term time only!).

Optional add-ons include:

Mozambique day trips – on this day trip we take you into Mozambique and out for a scenic trip on the ocean. There is plenty of marine wildlife to be seen. If conditions allow there is a possibility of swimming with dolphins. Highly recommended.

Turtle tours – nesting season is between November and February. Cross the lake in the early evening by boat, and take a walking tour with trained community guides in search of nesting loggerhead and leatherback turtles.
Elephant Safaris – in Tembe Elephant Reserve. This small but unique nearby reserve lies on the border between South Africa and Mozambique. It is home to the BIG 5, and is especially known for its LARGE elephants, and is also home to the endangered Suni, as well as other more common African wildlife species.

Boat trips – launching at 3rd lake we enjoy the waterways of this large lake system.

This morning following breakfast, guests will depart for their journey into Swaziland.  Swaziland is a beautiful little country and guests will be staying in the Mlilwane Game Reserve.  Mlilwane is Swaziland’s pioneer conservation area and is a beautiful, secluded sanctuary situated in Swaziland’s “Valley of Heaven”, the Ezulwini Valley, in between Mbabane and Manzini. No activities are included in the cost of the itinerary as guests will be free to choose to do what they wish.

2 x nights in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary staying in a traditional Swazi Beehive Village inclusive of all meals.

The Sanctuary covers 4,560 hectares and comprises of a southern and northern section. The southern section is predominately open grassland plains with middleveld vegetation, stretching up onto the striking Nyonyane Mountain with its exposed granite peak known as the "Rock of Execution". Nyonyane is where ancient San once lived and where Swazi Royal graves are situated giving historical significance. Behind these mountains, the stunning Mantenga waterfall and beautiful Usushwana Valley form the divide, before stretching up to northern section, which includes one of the highest surrounding points at Luphohlo. Tourist activities are concentrated in the southern section, with only guided trails entering the pristine mountains of the north.

The variety of game viewing activities on offer and the intimacy of wildlife interactions can provide hours of pleasure. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary hs an extensive network of self-guided walking trails. The camp facilities include a main area which houses a comfortable lounge area under thatch. The dining room has a large table where, as per safari tradition, everyone dines together to enjoy each other's company and share stories of the day's game sightings.

There is also a boma area with camp fire, perfect for warming you up with your coffee before the morning walk, or for enjoying evening drinks around the fire. In addition guests will experience a traditional South African braaivleis cooked over the open fire. To truly immerse yourself in the rustic bush experience, main area is lit with lanterns while plug points in the chalets can be used to charge your camera batteries.
